The art of illumination and gilding is centuries old but today is a lost and dying art. Those of us who keep the traditional art of illumination and gilding alive are few, but each piece is precious and unique. Each detail is meticulously planned from the design sketch, gesso preperation, colours of pigment, paint and gouache to the amount and placement of the 24k gold leaf to be used.
Some refer to what I do as painting with gold but it is so much more than that. All of the gold is hand gilded, and a part of my very soul goes into each work of art. After the surface has been prepared, static created from my hair is used to attract the gold
